چکیده
Phenotypic characterization has been recognized as very important for the identification and selection of promising lines in improvement programs. This study aimed at characterizing selecting early-maturing high-yielding African yam bean (AYB) mutant M2 generation. The experiment was carried out experimental field Institute Agricultural Research Training, Nigeria. design used a randomized complete block with three replications. Nineteen AYB were selected their four parents (making 23 lines) further evaluated agronomic characters field. results obtained revealed that coefficients variation ranged from 3.23% (maturity) to 141.81% (seed yield/plant). flowered matured earlier than outyielded by 62.64%. principal component (PC) showed first PCs accounted 75.54% total variation. PC flowering, 50% podding, podding. second responsible pod yield/plant seed yield/plant, whereas peduncle length associated third PC, while fourth maturity. breeding delineated into heterotic groups cluster I had lines; members highest (60.22 g), (27.33 early-maturing. Cluster II consisted 17 moderate longest length. III contained exhibited lowest peduncle. A highly significant association existed between (r = 0.97**), but negatively correlated flowering (r=-0.23*) (r=-0.24*). Therefore, identified could be utilized plant breeders/geneticists develop varieties are

Antioxidant Activity of Germinated African Yam Bean (Sphenostylis stenocarpa) in Alloxan Diabetic Rats
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the antioxidant activity of germinated African Yam Bean (AYB) on oxidative stress markers in alloxan induced diabetic rat. Rats were randomized into three groups; control, diabetic and germinated AYB – treated diabetic rats. The Total phenol and flavonoid content and DPPH radical scavenging activity before and after germination were investig...

متن کاملEffect of Peptide Size on Antioxidant Properties of African Yam Bean Seed (Sphenostylis stenocarpa) Protein Hydrolysate Fractions
Enzymatic hydrolysate of African yam bean seed protein isolate was prepared by treatment with alcalase. The hydrolysate was further fractionated into peptide sizes of <1, 1-3, 3-5 and 5-10 kDa using membrane ultrafiltration. The protein hydrolysate (APH) and its membrane ultrafiltration fractions were assayed for in vitro antioxidant activities. The <1 kDa peptides exhibited significantly bette...
متن کاملSensory Evaluation of Dawa Dawa Produced By the Traditional Fermentation of African Yam Bean (Sphenostylis Stenocarpa Harms) Seeds
Dawa dawa condiment was produced by traditional fermentation of African yam bean and soybean seeds. Processed substrates were incubated for 72 hr at room temperature in earthen pots lined with washed fresh banana leaves. Samples of African yam bean dawa dawa (AYBD) were comparatively evaluated with African locust bean dawa dawa (ALBD) sample and two types of soybean dawa dawa samples that were ...
